Jacob "Jake" Bowman Obit
Jake Bowman, the son of Robert S. (Bud) Bowman & Dicie Jane (Peters) Bowman, was born Jan. 19, 1882 at Scoville, Owsley Co., Ky.; was married to Emily McGuire, daughter of Arch B. McGuire & Helen (Treadway) McGuire, on May 20, 1902. To this marriage was born five children -- Jennie, (Mrs. Hurston H. Holcomb), Levi, Ky.; James F., Sturgeon, Ky.; & Dicie who died in infancy.
(Mr.) Bowman was the sixth child of a family of seven, Sarah, Henry, William, Matilda, & John being older & Thomas younger. William & Thomas survive. Mr. Bowman's Bowman ancestry came into Owsley Co., Ky., shortly after the turn of the past century, & his Peters ancestry fled Virginia during the Civil War because of Union sympathies. Mr. Bowman united with the Christian Church on Aug. 18, 1922, & he has been a Deacon in his church over twenty years. He was a past Master of New Hope Lodge, No. 564, Free & Accepted Masons, & had been an active Mason over 30 years.
Mr. Bowman was known for having had no hesitancy in fighting for the right as he saw the right. He never concealed his actions; was often outspoken; & it is felt that the life he lived speaks for itself.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the family cemetery at Endee by R.B. Baker. Burial rites by Masonic Lodge of New Hope.
