MSGT Floyd Studer Jr. served with the USAF 1173rd Special Activities Squadron, Military Assistance Advisory Group, Vietnam (MAAGV) in Bangkok, Thailand. On August 15, 1961, MSGT Studer was killed in a Marine Corps helicopter accident (probably a HUS-1/UH-34D Seahorse). He was not a crew member at the time, but part of a MAAG training mission. On this particular mission, the helicopter went down approximately 100 miles northeast of Bangkok and 35 miles north of Korat RTAFB. The helicopter crash killed two passengers and injured three others. Killed were Royal Thai CAPT Prasit Yamachutin and MSGT Studer. The Marine air crew, pilot 1LT William Rever Jr., co-pilot 1LT Gary D. Johnson, and crew chief SGT Roland K. McCall, were injured in the crash.
