• EDITOR OF POTTER COUNTY JOURNAL DIES
Nelson E. Barton, editor of the Potter Journal, died February 7 at his home in Coudersnort. Mr. Barton, accompanied by Mrs. Barton, went to Coudersport from Newton, N.J. in June and July 1st purchased the Potter County Journal.
Mr. Barton had been engaged in the printing business for more than 50 years. He was born in Danville, Pa., and at the age of 18 years began his career as editor when he founded the Afton Enterprise at Afton, N.Y. Since that time he has actively conducted newspapers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Mr. Barton was a member of the Pica Club and a former secretary of the Lake Hoptacong Yacht Club. He was a descendant of John Hancock, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and was related to Clara Barton, founder of the Red Cross; to Franklin Pierce, forteenth president of the United States and to Hetty Green, of New York. He was active in church work.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. A. A. Baekey; a son, Louis Nelson Barton, and three grandchildren, all of Coudersport; a sister, Mrs. Ada Gates, of Susquehanna..
