CAPTAIN REESE IS DEAD IN MANSFIELD
Mansfield, June 8.-- Captain John J. Reese, a prominent citizen of Tioga County died at his home in Mansfield Monday morning of heart disease.
John J. Reese was born in Carmarthenshire, Wales, in 1836. In 1840 his parents came to the United States and setled in Charleston where he received his education in the district schools. In September 1861, he enlisted as a second lieutenant in Company G. 45 Pa., Vol. Inft., resigning in August 1862. In October, 1864, he raised thecompany and was elected captain of Company K., 207th regt., under General R. C. Cox.
After the war Captain Reese married Miss Myra Hart of Charleston, and they lived in Charleston until about 15 years ago they took up their residence in Mansfield. Captain Reese was a man universally esteemed and respected by all. He is survived by his widow and
one son, Professor Amos P. Reese of the Mansfield Normal,
two daughters,
- Mrs. Ina Marvin of the Bronx, N. Y., and
- Miss Ethel Reese at home.
The funeral was held from the church in Welsh Settlement. Charleston, today.
- Burial was In Welsh Settlement Cemetery.
