Houseknecht Birth: Apr. 13, 1839, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, USA Death: Jun. 17, 1864, Petersburg City, Virginia, USA He married Martha Jane Ketler on 12 February 1861. Family links: Parents: Jacob Houseknecht (1799 - 1885) Susannah Sones Houseknecht (1802 - 1857) Inscription: Charles Son of J. & S. Houseknecht was killed in battle in front of Petersburg, Va. while leading his company in charge upon the Rebel Works on the 17th of June 1864, aged 25 years, 2 months, 4 days. He was Orderly Sergeant of Co. I 2nd Pa. Provisional Heavy Artillery. In his dying anguish. Mid war's confusion wild comrades heard his accents, "My darling wife and child."
