Mary Ellen (Roark) Roberts, 88, Indianapolis, died Dec. 31, 2007, at Marquette Manor Healthcare in Indianapolis.
Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Waverly, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Dovie (McKenzie) Roark.
She married Carroll Norton Roberts on Nov. 22, 1956. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1975.
She graduated from Butler University with a degree in education.
She was a furniture buyer for L.S. Ayres in Indianapolis during the late 1930s and early 1940s.

She was a descendent of one of the first families to settle in Morgan County.

She was a 50-year member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America,
lifetime member of the Waverly Order of the Eastern Star, and was
executive secretary of the Festival Music Society of Indiana for three decades. She was very active with the Morgan County Historical So ciety during the 1940s and was instrumental in the restoration of the Academy Building in Mooresville.
She was a longtime member of the Third Church of Christ, Scientist, in Indianapolis.
Survivors include
- a son, C.J. Roberts of Indianapolis;
- a sister, Virginia Roark Lyons of Mooresville and
- a grandson, Tyler Roberts of Indianapolis.
The service will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Carlisle and Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville. Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
There will be no burial.
The body will be cremated.

Washington St., Martinsville, IN 46151, or the Festival Music Society of Indiana, Indiana History Center Theater, 450 W. Ohio St., Indianapolis, IN 46151.
