DEATH CAUSED BY SEVERE BURNS
Turtle Point Boy Fatally Burned by Explosion of Crude Oil Last Monday.
Severe burns received Monday when a container, full of crude oil exploded, death of Maurice D. Taylor, eleven-year-old son of Chester Taylor, of Turtle Point, Tuesday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the Port Allegany hospital.
The accident occurred at the Taylor residence at Turtle Point about six o'clock Monday evening when a container of crude oil was placed too close to a fire, which Mr. Taylor was using to melt tar for use in roofing his home. When the oil exploded the clothes of Maurice Taylor, who was standing close by watching his father, ignited, and before the flames could be smothered his was severely burned. He was immediately rushed to the Port Allegany hospital, where death ensued the following morning.
The Taylor family, who seem to have had more than their share of bad luck during the past few years, has the sincere sympathy of many friends throughout this section. Mrs. Taylor, mother of the young lad, passed away several years ago following the birth of a daughter. This same daughter, when only an infant, tipped a pail of boiling water over herself, the severe burns resulting caused her death almost immediately.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon, with a prayer service at the home 1:15 P. M., followed by services at the First Baptist Church of Port Allegany at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. E. D. Wooddell officiate. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.
Maurice D. Taylor was born at
Olean N.Y., June 5, was 1924, and during his brief time among us made friends, who, with the immediate family, deeply mourn his loss.
Surviving are his father,
brother, Arthur Taylor of Newark, N. J.;
two sisters, Mrs. Vernon Ruby of Turtle Point, and Mrs. Emil Lundgreen of Two Mile,
and his grandmother, Mrs. Welthia Taylor of Turtle Point.

STARTS NIGHT SHIFT
The night shift of ten weavers began working at the Elk Silk Company's mill in Shinglehouse on Monday night, August 5, which gives employment to more people. The workers are not making as large wages as they did a year or so ago, but it gives them steady work. Twelve looms that were added a couple of weeks ago make this mill quite an asset to the community.
