At about eleven o'clock John F. Stone of the First National Bank of

ARRIVAL OF CALVES AT HARRY B. LENT FARM

Coudersport arrived and each boy signed a note with that bank in payment for his calf. The calves were then numbered and each boy drew a number from a hat. The calf bearing a number corresponding to the one he drew from the hat was his. Pictures were taken and each boy started home with his calf. The members of this club are:
Paul Dunn,
John and James Seymour,
Lewis and Frank Lent,
Everett and Lester Gooch,
John Scott,
Harry Palmatier,
Everett and Harland Saulters.
John F. Stone is sponsoring this club and the First National Bank of Coudersport financed the boys in the purchase of their calves.
Last Tuesday nine fine purebred Holsteln calves were brought in and distributed to the members of the Germania 4H Calf Club, bringing the number of calves in that club up to twenty. The calves were brought in by truck and distributed late Tuesday night. The boys and girls were on hand when the calves arrived, drew their calves by lot and took them home. The members of the Germania Club are
Frank and Raymond Karhan, Fred and Mildred Swan,
Dorothy and Carroll Schaner,
John and Elizabeth Winkelman,
Rita and Leota Gilbert,
Charles and Harold Traub,
Reginald and Virgil Handwerk,
Leon and Theodore Sykora,
Dorothy Gressel, Dale Lechler,
Victor and Eleanor Douglas.
This club is sponsored by John C. Gault, cashier of the First National Bank of Galeton. This bank also financed each of the club members in the purchase of their calves.
All of the calves brought in to the county for 4H Club work are from cows that have produced more than 400 pounds of butterfat and over 10,000 pounds of milk in a year. They are also sired by bulls whose dams have made over 1,000 pounds of butter in a year.
Each one of these calves will make the foundation for a high producing herd. The calves in 4H clubs will be fed, managed and cared for under the direct supervision of the Extension Service of the Pennsylvania State Col lege. County Agent Straw reports that there will be between fifteen and twenty calves brought into the communities of Millport and Shinglehouse during this week and next.
Meetings of all the newly organized calf clubs in the county were held during the week with County Agent Straw and James P. Keim, Assistant Club Leader of State College in attendance. The members of these clubs are now learning what club activities really mean. The 4H Club work raises the stan dard of production of the dairy herds of the county, improves the production ' methods and increases the profits from the dairy business.
