FRANKLINVILLE - Edwin J. Cornell of First Avenue died Saturday (Feb. 6, 1999) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness.
Born July 7, 1937 in Port Allegany, Pa., he was a son of E. Merle and Frances Kuenn Cornell.
On Aug. 17, 1968, in Franklinville, he married the former Agnes Southwick, who survives.
Mr. Cornell was a 1955 graduate of Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961.
He was employed in the banking business for 37 years, first working for First National Bank of Olean in 1961. He went on to be branch manager of Manufacturer's Hanover Bank in Portville and Olean. He was also employed by Chemical Bank, Chase Bank, and Fleet Bank. He retired from Chase Manhattan Bank in 1995. He then went to work for First Tier Bank and Trust Company in Olean, where he was currently employed.
Mr. Cornell was a member of he Franklinville Tree Commission, the Franklinville Masonic Lodge 626 F&AM and Boneka Chapter 522 Order of the Eastern Star where he had served as past district grand lecturer and past patron. He was member of the Coudersport Consistory and of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church of Franklinville where he had been organist for 38 years.
He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, playing the piano and organ. He also enjoyed singing for various occasions.

In addition to this wife, Mr. Cornell is survived by
- a daughter, Carolyn (Brent) Friend of Norristown, Pa.;
- a son, Nate Cornell of Franklinville;
- a granddaughter;
- a brother Darrin (Elva) Cornell of Wellsville;
a niece; a nephew; and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Babbitt and Eaton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville. Funeral services will be held Thursday (Feb. 11, 1999) at 11 a.m. in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on the corner of Main and Green Streets in Franklinville. The Rev. Paul Henderson, pastor, and the Rev. Peter Phear, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville.
A Masonic service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to he St. Barnabas Episcopal Church of the First Baptist Church of Franklinville or to a charity of the donor's choice."
