Five Hospitalized Following Crash Sunday At Ladona

Auto Driven By Mansfield Justice Of The Peace Hits Local Man's Car Head-On Woman Passenger Suffers Broken Hip.
Six persons were Injured shortly after 5:00 p. m., Sunday in a two-car collision on East Second Street at Ladona.
Five passengers in one car were admitted to the Potter County Memorial Hospital here. The driver and only passenger in the other car was treated and permitted to go home.
Chief of Police Earl B. Smith listed the injured as:
Robert Hendryx, of Coudersport.
Mr. and Mrs. William C. Barnes, of Mansfield, Pa.
Mr. and Mrs. William Duell, of Sweden Valley.
John Holt, of Mansfield.
Mr. Hendryx, alone in his car, was treated for a laceration of the right knee and contusions.
Mr. Barnes suffered broken ribs and cuts; Mrs. Barnes, cuts and bruises; Mr. Duell, also cuts and bruises, and Mr. Holt abrasions.
Mrs. Duell, most seriously injured, suffered a broken hip, numerous cuts and bruises.
All except Mr. Duell, who was discharged next day, still are confined. Returning from a family gathering at Cherry Springs State Park, marking the 90th birthday of Mrs. Amy Stevens, his mother-in-law, Mr. Hendryx was driving alone toward Coudersport in the last of a string of 12 cars.
Reaching Ladona he started a right turn into the filling station operated jointly by his son, Frank, and himself when his car was struck by the auto driven by Mr. Barnes and traveling In the opposite direction.
Mr. Barnes told Chief Smith that sunlight reflected by the windshield of the Hendryx auto blinded him. Chief Smith quoted Mr. Barnes as saying that he was mopping his brow with a handkerchief. A 63-year-old Mansfield insurance man and justice of the peace, Mr. Barnes assumed full responsibility for the accident which demolished both cars.
