STEVENS, Amy Irene (Van Gilder > Armstrong) Stevens [Potter County Journal, Vol. 102, October 1952] - OBITUARY #1
"Mrs. Amy Stevens Succumbs to Heart Attack
Amy A. Stevens, a life-time resident of Coudersport, died on Wednesday, October 15, 1952, at the Potter County Memorial Hospital following a heart attack which she suffered late Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Stevens was born at Ulys¬ses, Pa., July 17, 1861, to Ira B. Van Gilder and Elizabeth Jane Kenney Van Gilder, and in 1865 was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Armstrong.
Married to Edward C. Stevens on October 24, 1883, at Couders¬port, to them were born six chil¬dren, five of whom are living:
Mrs. Mary Hendryx of Coudersport, Mrs. Alice Huber of Corning, N, Y., Miss Florence Stevens of Rochester, Mrs. Esther Kendall of Boston, Mass., and Walter Stevens of Maywood, N. J. Another daughter, Mrs. Ruth Musgrave, preceded her in death in 1927.
Also surviving are 13 grand¬children, 17 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Dough¬erty, of Port Allegany.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock in the Park Methodist Church. Rev. Gordon Loomis of Hornell, her former pastor, will conduct the serv¬ices. Burial will be made in Eula¬lia Cemetery.
Death came silently and peace¬fully to Mrs. Stevens. Tuesday evening she attended an SHG ban¬quet and became ill early Wednes¬day morning. She never regained consciousness.
For 80 years Mrs. Stevens was a member of Park Methodist Church and was closely associated with two of the organizations of the church, the Mary and Martha Class and the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also an active member of the SHG since 1921.
One of the highlights of her life was her 90th birthday celebration in 1951, when her family from far and near gathered to do her honor.
Never ill, it could be said of her that she enjoyed life to time last."
