Brenda Kenealy Williams? Potter/McKean County, Pennsylvania Genealogy
October 1 · 2018
This is Gertrude Niles, daughter of Frank and Carrie Clark Niles. This glass picture is among my grandmothers things.
Gertrude was born October 22, 1883 and died in 1981 I believe in New Jersey.
Apparently remained single and taught school.
I would like to find more info and where she was eventually buried.

I think you have a challenge ahead' I found her parents and two siblings in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Hebron Pa. But not Gertrude. The last place I found her living was in Mt. Claire NJ but no grave site for her could I find in NJ. nor NY or PA .I suspect her grave is unmarked. I wish you luck. We have a few family members grave site unknown at this time also. ..Sorry I couldn't be of more help....b

Thanks for trying. I've been contacting cemeteries in Essex County but no luck. I was thinking she may have been in nursing home at age 98 and no real close family. These old pictures need a proper home. I was at Woodlawn in Hebron myself, no luck. Thanks again

Check funeral homes near where her last social check was sent, death certificate may show something also.

I can try finding funeral homes but I didn't know about readily finding death certificates. I mostly use Family Search website and view what I can. I wanted to preserve these old pictures that my Grandmother had or find relatives that would want them. I will probably give them to Potter County Historical Society eventually. Thanks for suggestions.

The spelling of the town where she lived in 1970 should be spelled Montclaire not Mt. Claire as I wrote earlier...b

You could also check rest homes in that area.

Tim Chase Excellent idea. We have even found some of our, alone and infirm elders and children who could not be taken care of any longer at home in state hospitals. They didn't have many homes for elderly dementia patients or any group homes in the '40s...b

Brenda, I have a Mary Catherine Brace Niles profile on Ancestry that matches My DNA. Do you know this person? Thanks..

No. My connection is my grandmother's sister, Carrie Clark , married Frank Niles.
Gertrude and her sisters are cousins. So I am not directly related to the Niles side.
They had 5 daughters,
Esther,
Gertrude,
Ruth,
Kate and
Frances.
I'm pretty sure there is a number of Niles in Potter County.
