Aged Man Dead
Death Calls S.P. Hemphill As He Was Returning Home From Visit In Alfred, NY
Silas Pual Hemphill, one of the respected pioneers of the county died yesterday (Oct. 18, 1916) at the home of his daughter Mrs. W.W. Holly of Myrtle. He was 83 years of age last June.
The aged father was returning to his home in Hebron from Alfred, NY where he had been to visit friends and stopped enroute to visit at his daughter's home and was there when death came. The funeral will be held to-morrow afternoon from the Hebron Center church at one o'clock.
He is survived by the following children:
Thema (Phema?), wife of W.W. Holly, of Myrtle;
Ella, wife of Arthur Crocker, of Horse Run;
Vina, wife of Thomas Burdick, of Little Genesee;
James W., who lived on the homestead in Hebron;
Dr. W. J., of North Loup, Neb;
Ruth, wife of John Barrett. Mr & Mrs Barrett have been in Oklahoma and were called here by the illness of her father.
Dr. Hemphill visited his relatives in the county during the summer and had returned to his home only about three weeks ago.
