Here's an interesting Potter County murder mystery. I found this newspaper article in the Potter County Historical Society. Ellery Dunn was the son of Stanton Dunn & Delphine Parker Dunn, and the grandson of Michael & Sarah Ellison Dunn. Also mentioned in this article was Lawrence Snyder (my grandfather) and Albert Davey (my great grandfather). The story was also published in the Leader Dispatch newspaper.

I started to investigate this obvious murder when I found this death certificate on Ancestry. I also read that Henry Cornelius was also jailed, I think a year later, for killing a man he claimed was a chicken thief. He did not spend much time in jail however. I sorta think that guy got away with murder! - Two murders

P.S. That Dr Bentley mentioned was the same Dr John Irving Bentley who made news years later by his apparent "spontaneous human combustion" death.

And my cousin, Ray Sullivan from Roulette was in the FBI and had a hand in inventing the camera that could take a picture of the entire room thru a keyhole. He and his wife also took a canoe the entire length of the Mississippi. Yep, the good and the bad..:)

Well, after quite a bit of research I'm quite sure that Henry Cornelius was my 1st cousin, 3x's removed. The biggest clue was in the article you just shared Larry Herbstritt. It mentioned that he had gone back to Marchie Cornelius residence. So after searching Ancestry I was able to determine that Marchie was his sister. And so I was able to find the rest of his siblings and his parents...:).

After further research, I was able to find out that Marchie was his brother, not sister. This is why you have to keep looking to verify...:). I was going by someone else's tree. Thank you Beverly Rogers for bringing it to my attention..:)

Larry Herbstritt. My great aunt, Marian McGonnell from Coudersport was married to a Herbstritt and lived in Buffalo. I don’t remember his given name but we all called him Uncle Tiny. He was only about 5’4”
