Coudersport Man Is Killed By Automobile
Funeral services for Archie Bailey, Coudersport. RD 2, who was instantly killed when he was struck by an automobile Greenman Hill, near Coudersport at about six o'clock Wednesday night, will be held at Halwig Funeral Home in Olean, Saturday afternoon (January 1949) at two o'clock. The Rev. Winton H. Halsted, pastor of People's Methodist Church will officiate and
- burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
The accident in which Mr. Bailey met his death occurred in the middle of Greenman Hill four and a half miles from Coudersport. Mr. Bailey was walking up the hill when he struck by a car driven by D__est W. Hunt. Coudersport, RD 2.
Mr. Hunt told State Police from the Coudersport barracks that he was driving up the hill which is on Route 44. He was apparently about forty feet from Bailey, who was walking in the same direction. Another motorist, coming down the hill at fast rate ot speed, Mr. Hunt said, put his lights on the high and blinded him momentarily and his car struck Mr. Bailey. He stopped his car and found Bailey lying in the road. He summoned the State Police and Mr. Bailey was taken to the Potter Memorial Hospital in Coudersport. He was found to be dead on arrival at the hospital. Trooper Michael C. Evelock investigated the case.
Coroner Robert McLaughlin, Shinglehouse. issued a certificate of accidental death.
Mr. Bailey was born September 18, 1882 in Shinglehouse. He was formerly employed by the Buffalo. Rochester and Pittsburgh Railroad and for the past several years had been engaged in farming.
Surviving are two daughters,
- Mrs Ralph Chapman, Olean, and
- Mrs Leonard Easton, Kings Run. Pa.:
- one son, Harold Bailey, Erie. Pa.;
three sisters,
- Mrs. Eva Taggerty and
- Mrs. Madge Pilon, Portville, and
- Mrs. Bernice Mansfield. Cuba:
two brothers,
- Frank Bailey, Green, NY and
- Ralph Bailey, Portville; eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Hentcl said, "The dt-lay has been disappointing- to us. because we fully expected to be in operation with FM by the first of the year. We are assured that shipment of the necessary equipment will be made immediately, and our FM broadcasting: should get under way in a few weeks " The FM tiansmitter tower has been constructed near Flatiron Rock on Rock City Hill, and its red bluiking light is no\v a familiar night-time sight to many Clean people.

Mrs. 0. Andrews Funeral Is Held
Funeral services for Mrs Orlena Stay Andrews wete held Wednesday afternoon (January 12. 1949)"at one o'clock at the Halwig Funeral Home. The Very Rev. Joseph Groves, rector of St. Stephen's Church, officiated. Further services were conducted at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Buffalo, by the Rev. Robert L. Spears of St. Paul's Cathedral. Pallbearers were Frank A. Wctherell. Charles Schaffer. Cljde M. Guild, Edmund f . Ward. Leo E. Ru?scll. Ward" J. Fitch. Raymond Hawley. and Carl H. Hausknecht.
