20181014HAv- 6 children of Otis Thomas & Emma Viola Fosmer Lyman
Otis married Emma Viola Fosmer, daughter of Garret R. and Lucy Haynes Fosmer in 1896 in Mina. They had 11 children, 1897-1920, the first six of whom (1897-1906) match the girl-boy sequence g,g,b,g,b,g of the photo; Corvin was born in 1911, 5 years after Mabel, 1906. So the photo was probably taken between 1906 and 1911... well, how old is Mabel here, 2? She was born 24 January 1906, so photo taken 1908.

Would this be Otis Lyman who married Rosella Sherwood? (My 1st cousin 3x removed) I know they had a lot of children !

If so, she's probably the lady standing at the right side of the photo. They had 7 children, by my records, the 3rd of whom, Lucretia, died after just turning 6 years old.

If you flip this photo, that number on the left becomes '7079' on the right. Probably a 'negative number' (filmstrip; I mean, not a negative number...) I suspect this picture was taken after 27 Aug 1875, when Lucretia died, because they are probably standing in birth order, in which case, #3 being a boy is probably #4 in birth order, Otis Thomas Lyman. The death of Lucretia may have prompted Rosella into getting a portrait of the remaining children while they still had them all, which they did until Sarah, the next to pass away, died in 1937.

Here's another look at this same photo that I'd pulled from paintedhills.org a year ago. Unfortunately, this one had already been cropped, but I guess the lady at the right is not central to the photograph. It gets more interesting. From the paintedhills.org site, Barb Hyde explains the pics on the page: Photos of Billy Pfeiffer
Roulette, Potter County

On January 31, 1894 in Olean, William Pfeiffer, better known as Billy, married Nellie Boyington Walley of Roulette and moved to Roulette to be the first superintendent of the Roulette Telephone Company. This enterprising couple was interested in everything and they became two of the most enthusiastic boosters of Roulette.
Billy must have had a passion for new technology. Over a hundred years ago, he helped bring the telephone to Roulette, was an assistant engineer for the infant North Penn Gas Company, and was an expert electrician. He was also a photographer when that field was new. He had a studio in his home where he photographed most of Roulette's citizens at one time or another. Billy also took his equipment on the road. For over 40 years, at a time when a camera and all of its baggage could weight 30 pounds, he roamed all over the Roulette area taking pictures of buildings, demolitions, panoramas, and anything else that interested him or that a client requested.
His photography equipment was glass plate. As you can see from the pictures on this page, it produced remarkably high-quality prints. Over 100 years later, the prints are clear and true. Billy's photographs provide a clear look at Roulette and its people as the century changed.

So, I guess that puts the date of this photograph after, maybe well after, 1894. The picture was also labeled "Otis T. Lyman Family" (in fact, so is this one, ie O.T.Lyman Kids!), which would mean that it is the children not of Otis and Rosella Sherwood Lyman mentioned above, but rather of their #4 child, Otis Thomas Lyman. Now to find his genealogy and that of his (these) kids...
