At that time Darden was a congressman in Washington. I wondered about his connection wiht aviation. I'm a member of the League of WWI Aviation Historians. Their magazine is published by the University in Dallas and in an article of a squadron in France during WWI a crash of an FE2B is described and Colgate Darden was a pilot in the squadron. Later he was a congressman and Governor of Virginia during the second World War. I have no papers to prove it but I believe he is a distant cousin of ours, this belief nurtured by all he did for my father who spoke of him often." Source: Letter from Charles A.
