Mr. & Mrs. John William Fridley
The marriage of Miss Ruthanne Gates and John William Fridley took place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 1967, in Park Methodist Church, Coudersport.
Officiating at the double-ring ceremony was the Rev. LaRue Bender. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gates, Coudersport, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fridley, Kane.
Vases of white daisies and gladioli adorned the church and Miss Lucille Clark, organist, accompanied Mrs. Garner Mitchell, Coudersport, who sang "Entreat Me Not To Leave Thee" and "Wedding Prayer."
Escorted by her father, the bride wore an A-line empire styled gown of white silk peau de soie fashioned with elbow-length bell sleeves, Bertha collar, detachable train, and detailed with re-embroidered Alencon lace. A crown of matching silk peau de soie held her butterfly veil of illusion and she carried a white orchid surrounded with stephanotis and ivy in a cascade arrangement.
Miss Christine Hornick, Ches-wick, served as maid of honor in a floor-length yellow A-line, empire styled gown designed with el bow-length bell sleeves, skirt of yellow sata peau over taffeta and having a bodice of nylon bonded j iace A matching Dior bow of sata peau held her yellow veil and she carried a cascade arrangement of yellow and white daisies on a wicker ring.
Dressed identically were Miss Juliann Parsells, Wellsboro, who was bridesmaid for her cousin; William Fridley and Nancy and Marcia Gates, who were junior bridesmaids for their sister.
Charles Fridley, Kane, brother of the bridegroom, was test man. Guests were ushered by William Griffith, cousin of the bridegroom; Basil Imbrogno, and Hal Campbell, all of Kane.
Immediately following the wedding, a reception attended by 125 guests was held in the church parlors. The bridal table was decorated with a bouquet of yellow daisies and yellow candles in candelabra. The four-tiered wedding cake was decorated with yellow roses and topped with white satin wedding bells. Punch was served by Miss Susan Gates, the bride's cousin, Coudersport, and Miss Betty Gardner, also of Coudersport.
The bride was graduated in 1963 from Coudersport Area High School and in May, 1967 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she received her BS degree in elementary education. She is employed as an elementary teacher in the Towanda Area School System. Her husband was graduated from Williamsport Community College, Williamsport and is employed by Joseph Kesnow, architect, Towanda.
Upon return from a two weeks wedding trip to Florida, the couple will be at home at 327 York Ave., Towanda. A personal shower was given by college friends of the bride at Indiana, a variety shower by Mrs. John Rigas, Coudersport; and another variety shower by Mrs. Kenneth Rexford and Mrs. Edward Fuller, Coudersport.
