3 Sep 1739: Arrival in Philadelphia
Ship: "Robert & Alice" with Walter Goodman as Master. With Peter were his wife Elisabeth Hershey, their two-year-old daughter Esther, baby John and Elisabeth’s parents, Christian and Esther Hershey.

Note that this record potentially conflicts with source titled "Christian Hershey arrived in Lancaster County between 1715-1717". Possibly the Christian in that record was actually the father Hans Christian?

The following is taken from a German document printed prior to 1834, And, the early records of Andrew Hershey's family, 1702-1792, are proven by his will in the Recorder's Office at Lancaster, Pennsylvania " Andrew Hershey (1702-1792) was born in switzerland in the year 1702, from whence his father moved to the palatinate at the court of freidensheimer Hoff. In the year 1719, he, with his father and brother Benjamin., came to America and settled in Lancaster coounty. Pa., in an area known as the Little Conestoga.
His brother Christian was obliged to remain at the court until the year 1739, when he also came to America. These three brothers, Andrew, Benjamin and Christian, were chosen preacher of the Mennonite Church. Dandrew died in the 1792 at the age of 90 years. "

No dates or locations were mentioned. I have chosen to include John Myer's more detailed version of Christian's ancestry here. This agrees with (and is probably based on) Richard Davis' book "Emigrants, Refugees and Prisoners", p. 209.

Originally I thought that my line went Franziest-Hans- Andrew. Now I have better documentation that says it is Franziest-Christian- Christian. Therefore- these changes.
Christian (born 1690) arrived in Philadelphia in 1739. Apparently is duplication of Temple work because Christian (born 1690) is listed as Bap 16 Apr 1993 and End 27 May 1994 both at Toronto Temple.

November 29, 2017
This article appears in the October 2017 issue of the Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage magazine. In the article the author Peter Hersche (translated by Cark Shenk) fully refutes the legend that the Hershey family came out of Canton Appenzell Innerrhoden in Switzerland.
