Williams, Miles, was born in Tioga county, NY, February 21, 1825, son of John A., and Nancy Thompson Williams, she a native of Tioga county, and he of Connecticut. They came to Woodhull in 1836, where he died October 9, 1870, and she September 13, 1867. Miles's grandfather, Thomas Williams, died in Tioga county, May 15, 1828, and his wife, Elizabeth, died May 24, 1864, aged eighty-six years. The maternal grandfather was Moses Thompson, who was born September 2, 1771, and died October 26, 1854. Miles Williams was brought up on a farm and educated in the common schools, and now owns 192 acres of land. In 1850 he married Catherine, daughter of Joseph D., son of Samuel Strond, who is mentioned in this work. Mr. and Mrs. Williams are the parents of two children: Joseph, who married Ida Marvin, and they have one child, Leon, born March 5, 1863, and by a previous marriage to Nellie Burch, they have one child, Wallace, born May 20, 1882. father, Joseph D. Strond, was born in New Jersey in 1792, and came to Woodhull. His wife was Elizabeth Merring, by whom he had nine children. He died February 28, 1870, and his wife November 19, 1883. He was one of the leading farmers of the town and owned about 600 acres of land.
