MELVIN V. REED
Melvin V. Reed, a well known merchant of Roulette, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard Hancock at Sweden Valley, Thursday, November 20.
Mr. Reed, the son of Russell and Adelia Reed, pioneer residents of Roulette township, was born March 1, 1859.
He was twice married, his first wife being Edith Weitrich of Roulette, who died in 1893. To this union one daughter, Vernice, was born. She preceded him in death during the flu epidemic of 1920.
In 1894 Mr. Reed was married to Alice Maltby. To this union one daughter, Edythe, was born.
In the death of Mr. Reed. Roulette loses one of its oldest and well loved citizens. He readily made friends and was always connected with the work of the community until his health became impaired a few years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Reed of Roulette,
- one daughter, Mrs. Howard Hancock,
three grandchildren,
- Retha, Letha and Lynn Crosby of Sweden Valley,
- one brother, Frank Reed of Roulette;
three nieces,
- Mabel Reed, Clarion, Pa.,
- Lucy Reed, Bradford, PA,
- Mrs. Clair Troutman of Roulette,
and one nephew, Lawrence Reed of Lockport, N. Y., besides a host of other relatives and friends.
A prayer was held at the home of Howard Hancock at Sweden Valley with Rev. Dietterich of Coudersport, officiating. The funeral was held in the Roulette M. E. Church with Rev. Salisbury officiating.
- Interment made in Lyman Cemetery. Heartfelt sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.
