James A. Kelly, who for many years was the genial host at the Hotel Crittenden, succumbed at the family home on North Main Street, Monday afternoon, January 22,

1945. Mr. Kelly had been in slowly failing health for a long time, and really ill some two months.
Mr. Kelly was born at Honesdale, Pa., July 15, 1859. He was the son of James and Mary Kelly. He came to this section more than forty years ago, being located in Galeton for some time before purchasing the Hotel Crittenden in December, 1906. He operated this hostelery most successfully until its sale to the late Harry Knight in 1935.
Mr. Kelly was possessed of a most genial nature and made warm friends, not only of the townspeople but of the thousands of traveling men, and the strangers who were guests at the Crittenden.
Mr. Kelly married Elizabeth Collins at Galeton in September, 1898, and she with one son, James Leo Kelly, of San Diego, Calif., survives. Another son, William M. Kelly passed away two years ago. He is the last of his family, three sisters having preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held at this morning irom the Gillon Funeral Home and at 9:00 o'clock from St. Eulalia Church, the church of which he had long been a member. The Rev. Fr. F. M. O'Connell officiated and burial was in St. Eulalia Cemetery. The pallbearers were

- Arthur Cantwell,
- John Havens,
- John Lyman,
- George Mitchell and
- Hubert Cox.
Genial Jim Kelly will be missed by a large circle of friends at home and over a large section of the country.
